90. Sewer Ventilation.— As in previous warm dry summers,
many complaints were received as to foul smells from road
surface sewer ventilators. These complaints are however
growing less numerous, as the open manholes are gradually
being fitted with close covers, and shafts erected to take their
place as ventilators. The Surveyor states that in all the
enquiries made up to the present, it has been found possible
to close the manholes complained of without depriving the
sewers of sufficient vent.
