At 107 the work is in progress, and the estimated amount already
expended on repairs in connection with these is £2,637, making a total
of £9,009.
In 71 instances the owners have been communicated with and have
promised to put the necessary work in hand.
In 20 instances no action has yet been taken by the owners.
Of the 315 premises dealt with, 249 were in the list of 643 houses
that were reported to the Housing Committee as being below the
standard compatible with health but which could be made reasonably fit
for human habitation, and 66 were in the list of unhealthy areas.
In the case of four premises inspected, it was found that their
condition was such that the only course was to recommend that Closing
Orders should be made when opportunity offers.
