Anthrax and Hydrophobia.—No notification of any case
of these diseases in man has been received during the year.
Tuberculosis.—During the year there were 192 cases of
Tuberculosis notified in the Borough, as compared with 231 for
the previous year. Of this number, 146 were pulmonary cases,
ordinarily known as Consumption, and 46 non-pulmonary, being
Tuberculosis affecting other portions of the body than the lungs.
Of this number of cases, 62 pulmonary and 20 noivpulmonary
occurred in East Greenwich, 36 pulmonary and 12 non-pulmonary
in West Greenwich, 13 pulmonary and 6 non-pulmonary in
St. Nicholas, 33 pulmonary and 8 non-pulmonary in Charlton.,
and 2 pulmonary in Kidbrooke. The various ages of the patients
were as follows :—Pulmonary cases from one to five, 1 case ;
five to fifteen, 22 cases ; fifteen to twenty-five, 34 cases ; twentyfive
to forty-five, 47 cases ; forty-five to sixty-five, 37 cases ;
and 5 cases over sixty-five ; whilst the Non-pulmonary were:—
Under one year, 2 cases ; one to five, 9 cases ; five to fifteen,
19 ca9es ; fifteen to twenty-five, 10 cases ; twenty-five to fortyfive,
4 cases ; and forty-five to sixty-five, 2 cases.
Three hundred and forty-nine specimens were forwarded
by medical practitioners for bacteriological investigation from
patients suspected to be consumptive ; 289 were reported to be
negative and 60 positive.
Disinfection has been offered and carried out in 128 cases,
including 181 rooms and 275 articles of bedding, etc. ; disinfectant
has also been supplied to patients to disinfect sputum,
etc., and sputum pots where such are found necessary.
