Fifteen specimens were forwarded by medical practitioners
for bacteriological examination from cases suspected to be
Typhoid Fever in character, 3 giving a positive result.
Puerperal Fever — Five cases of this disease were
notified during the year, all of which occurred in the East
Greenwich district.
There were 9 cases in 1926, 9 in 1925, 6 cases in 1924
and 9 cases in 1923.
Puerperal Pyrexia.—There were 10 cases of this disease
notified during the year. Eight cases occurred in East Greenwich,
1 in St. Nicholas, and 1 in Charlton. Nine of the cases
were removed to Hospital for treatment.
Measles.—This disease was made permanently notifiable
by an Order of this Council, approved by the Ministry on the
1st July, 1920.
In June last a Circular was received from the Metropolitan
Asylums Board, pointing out that the former practice of
admitting cases of Scarlet Fever in preference to Measles has
been abandoned and that in lieu thereof there will be a definite
allocation of beds for the two diseases, and further that the
allocation shall be revised periodically in relation to the requirements
of the moment, and that in time of Measles prevalence
the larger proportion of accommodation shall be given to
Measles.
The effect of this decision is that when the number of
beds available becomes short, and say, 75 per cent, of the
accommodation set apart for the two diseases is exhausted, any
medical practitioner desiring the admission of a case of either
Measles or Scarlet Fever will be referred to the Medical Officer
of Health with a view to his selecting those pises which, in
his opinion, should be removed to Hospital having regard to
all the circumstances.
Fortunately, owing to the comparatively small number of
cases of Measles during the year, it only became necessary to
apply for admission to Hospital in 10 cases.
Two hundred and thirty-four cases were notified during
the year, as compared with 1,299 during the previous year, and
1,610 for the year 1925. Ten such cases were removed to
Hospital for treatment.
