SECTION 4.
HOUSING.
In the report for the year 1926, it was stated that
contracts had been entered into for the erection of 100 houses
on the Twenty-Acre Field Site, of which 32 were completed and
occupied during that year, and for the erection of a further
102 houses on a site partially in the Twenty-Acre Field and
partly in Charlton Park. These houses are now all completed
and occupied, and bring the total houses erected by the Council
up to 624, excluding 50 flats situate in various roads in
Elackheath and Charlton. In addition to this, the Council has
31 wooden hutments in Tunnel Avenue.
A contract has also been entered into for the erection of
a further 76 houses on the Charlton Park Site.
There would still appear to be a great demand for
houses and there are about 1,600 applicants on the Register
whose requirements have not yet been satisfied by the Council.
