House Drainage. — One hundred and seven drainage
systems have been reconstructed or repaired; 399 such systems
have also been opened, cleansed and amended; 39 drains and
soil pipes have been ventilated; 280 systems have been tested
by smoke, 290 by water, of which number 140 were found to
be defective; 27 new soil pipes and 210 traps have been fixed,
together with 26 intercepting chambers and fresh-air inlets, and
90 other chambers constructed.
Thirty-two new covers to manholes have been provided;
33 systems have been sealed off or slurried up; 38 yards and
forecourts drained; 84 water-closets have been erected; 59
cleansed; 100 w.c. doors and seats repaired or provided; pan
and traps have been furnished in 250 cases ; and other fittings
provided or improved in 196 cases, whilst the flushing apparatus
has been amended in 436 instances. Public-house urinals have
been cleansed and repaired in 31 instances.
Customs and Inland Revenue Acts.—No applications
were received during the year for certificates under these Acts.
Horse Slaughterer.—The one horse slaughtering premises
in the Borough has been inspected on four occasioins and the
cleansing of the premises duly carried out.
Public Sanitary Conveniences.
The following are the underground sanitary conveniences
in the Borough:—
Blackwall Lane, East Greenwich;
South Street, Greenwich;
Creek Road, St. Nicholas, Deptford;
Blackheath Hill (foot of);
Batley Park, Blackheath.
Houses Let in Lodgings.—The new Bye-laws made by
the London County Council under Section 6 of the Housing
Act, 1925, came into operation on the 5th March, 1926. One
hundred and nineteen houses have been registered and 249
inspections made upon such premises.
Rats and Mice (Destruction) Act, 1919.—Complaints as
to rat infestation and cases coming to the notice of the Department
are forthwith investigated. Advice and assistance are
