INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality Rate measured by the deaths of
children under one year of age to the number of births registered,
was 53 per 1,000 births, as compared with 62, the figure for
last year, and is the lowest yet recorded. The total number of
deaths during the year was 90, as compared with 154, 135 and
114, the respective figures for the years 1924, 1925 and 1926.
This figure of 90 is even more striking when compared with
lhat of ten years ago, when it was over 200.
A further reference to the Infantile Mortality Rate will be
found in the Section devoted to the Maternity and Child Welfare
Scheme.
For the whole of London the rate was 59, compared with
64 in 1926, 67 in 1925 and 69 in 1924. For England and Wales
the rate, was 69, compared with 70 in 1926, 75 in 1925 and
75 in 1924.
Locally the variations were from 45 per 1,000 births in
Charlton, 49 in West Greenwich, 59 in East Greenwich, to 63
in St. Nicholas. Deptford.
