These figures give an Incidence Rate for all forms of 2.22
per 1,000 of the population (1.70 pulmonary and .52 nonpulmonary),
and a Death Rate for all forms of 1.12 per 1,000
(.89 pulmonary and .18 non-pulmonary).
In ten instances (7 pulmonary and 3 non-pulmonary) the
diagnosis of Tuberculosis was not confirmed so that the above
rates should be read at a slightly lower figure.
Further improvement in the figures may be looked for if and
when the unemployment and housing problems are more satisfactory.
Notification.—The following table shows the Death Notification
interval of 93 patients in 1926, and whose deaths were
ascribed to Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Of the 13 cases where the
information was derived from the Death Returns, 6 had been
treated in hospitals, and 7 by general practitioners.

Revised Diagnosis.—The 10 cases in which the diagnosis
of Tuberculosis was not confirmed comprised: 1 chronic bronchitis,
2 cancer, 3 debility and 1 pleurisy. These 7 patients were
notified as suffering from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. The 3 cases
notified as non-pulmonary proved: 1 scarlet fever with meningitis,
1 simple glandular swelling and 1 mastoid abscess.
In this connection it is very gratifying to note that the
number of cases sent by general practitioners to the Dispensary
(before notification) for an opinion as to diagnosis is increasing
year by year.
Deaths.—During the year 117 persons died from Tuberculosis
(all forms) giving a death rate of 1.12 per 1,000 population,
93 were due to the Pulmonary Form equal to a rate of .89
per 1,000 of the population, which is slightly lower than last
year's record figure. Several of these pulmonary deaths were
notified from Mental Hospitals and concerned patients who had
not resided in the Borough for many years.
