SECTION 4.
HOUSING.
It was mentioned in the Report for the year 1925 that
the total accommodation provided by the Council since 1920 to
the end of 1925 was 471 tenements and houses. During the
year under review contracts have been entered into for the erection
of 100 houses on the site known as the Twenty-Acre Field
and 102 houses partially on the same site and partially on the
Charlton Park Site. Of the 100 houses above referred to, 32
were completed and occupied during the year covered by this
Report. It is expected that the whole of the 100 will be
completed by April, 1927, and the further 102 by October of
the same year.
Instructions have also been given for plans to be submitted
for the erection of 23 houses on the Pound Park Site.
The demand for houses is still very great, there being
about 1,800 applications on the books of the Council which are
regarded as eligible for consideration. As the houses become
available these applications will be dealt with and allocations
made in order of merit consistent with the suitabilitv of the
applicants.
The total accommodation provided by the Council since
1920 to the end of 1926 is 442 houses, 50 flats, and 12
maisonettes.
