August, 1926.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit herewith the Annual Report
as Medical Officer of Health for the year 1925, this being my 25th
Report on the health of the Borough.
It is perhaps only to be expected that I should make some
reference to the many changes that have taken place in the public
health administration during this somewhat lengthy period, and I
have as far as possible endeavoured to follow the lines indicated
in the Ministry of Health's Circular.
The Death-Rate is 11.36 per 1,000 of the estimated population.
This is '53 lower than the average for the previous 5 years and compares
favourably with the rates for the County of London and
England and Wales which are 117 and 12.2 respectively.
The Birth Rate is 18.92 per 1,000. Last year the Birth Rate
was 20'19 and the average for the last 10 years 20.57. The Birth
Rate for the County of London is 18'0 and 18'30 for all England and
Wales.
The Infant Mortality Rate for the Borough, measured by the
number of deaths under one year to 1,000 births registered is 69
compared with 73 last year. The rate for England and Wales is
75, and for the County of London 67.
The Zymotic Death Rate of '58 per 1,000 is slightly lower
than last vear's figure of .69.
The figures relating to the different constituent parts of the
Borough are as follows:—
