The usual "Rat Week" was held during the first week in
November, and followed on the lines acted upon in previous years.
Circulars were sent out to all business firms and factories in the
Borough inviting their co-operation and concerted action towards
the extermination of rats and mice.
Chemists and Hardware Dealers were also circularised with a
view to their laying in larger stocks of raticides.
Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest Restrictions
Acts, 1920 and 1923. Eight applications were received during the
year from tenants for certificates under these Acts. Five Certificates
were granted. Of the remaining 3 cases the Certificates were
not necessary; in 2 instances the work specified was done by the
Landlord, whilst the other application was refused.
Other Scheduled Offensive Trades. Now that the
Foreign Animals' Wharf, generally referred to as the Deptford
Cattle Market, is permanently in the occupation of the Army
Authorities for the purposes of a Reserve Supply Depot no offensive
trades are carried on.
Verminous Premises.—In order to assist owners and occupiers
to deal with this ever increasing difficulty, a well known and tried
fluid preparation is supplied upon request, together with the use
of a sprayer. It is needless to add the sprayers have been in constant
demand and there is no doubt the means adopted has been
very efficacious.
