INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality, measured by the deaths of children
under one year of age to the number of births registered, was 73
per 1,000 births, there having been a total of 154 such deaths
during the year, as compared with 175, 121, and 129, the respective
figures for the years 1921, 1922, and 1923. Measles and Broncho.
Pneumonia were the chief causes of the increase in the number of
deaths.
A further reference to the Infantile Mortality Rate will be
found in the Section devoted to the Maternity and Child Welfare
Scheme.
For the whole of London the rate was 69 in 1924, compared
with 60 in 1923, 74 in 1922, and 80 in 1921. For England and Wales
the rate was 75, compared with 69 in 1923, 77 in 1922, and 83
in 1921.
Locally the variations were from 11 per 1,000 births in Kidbrooke,
67 in East Greenwich, 76 in Charlton, 82 in West Greenwich,
to 116 in St. Nicholas, Deptford.

Adopting the Registrar.General's classification of diseases, the

to the Borough per 1,000 of the population living in the Borough.
