HOSPITAL AND OTHER FORMS OF GRATUITOUS
MEDICAL RELIEF.
The Seamen's Hospital have admitted, treated and maintained
211 Greenwich persons for an average of twenty days each,
in addition to which there have been 1,174 Out-patients, making
altogether 5,322 attendances of persons belonging to the Borough
of Greenwich.
Miller General Hospital admitted, treated and maintained
375 Greenwich persons for an average of twenty-one days. 6,650
Out-patients have also been treated, the total attendances being
approximately 30,000.
Blackheath and Charlton Cottage Hospital admitted 180
In-patients from Greenwich, and treated about 120 casualties, making
about 1,040 attendances for this purpose.
SANITARY WORK.
The tables on pages 22 to 24 and 67 to 75 summarise, as far
as possible, the Sanitary work of the Department; from this it will
be seen that a total of 21,257 houses and premises have been inspected
or re-inspected during the year; 2,147 intimation notices
and 636 statutory notices have been served.
It was found necessary to institute Police Court proceedings
in fifteen cases during the year, particulars of which are contained
in the table on page 27.
There were altogether throughout the year 957 complaints
registered.
Factories, Workshops and Workplaces.—Two hundred and
thirty-three inspections have been paid to these premises within the
Borough during the year. There were 202 workshop premises on
the Register at the beginning of the year, 5 have been taken off,
leaving a total now on the Register of 197. This total includes
14 laundries, 26 dressmaking and mantle works, 7 fuel and lire.
wood works, 3 cycle works, 8 milliners, and various others, including
workplaces, such as 4 blacksmiths, 14 barge builders, 3 builders'
yards, etc.
Outworkers' Register.—Twelve lists, containing. 79 names,
have been received from employers within the district. One hundred
and twenty-four visits of inspection have been paid to these
premises.
