Ninety two illegitimate births were actually registered in the
Borough, but 47 of these belonged to other Boroughs. Thirty.six
illegitimate births occurred in the Greenwich and Deptford Hospital,
of which 17 only belonged to Greenwich.
Under the provisions of the Notifications of Births Act, 1907,
intimations have been received from medical men, parents, and
others, with respect to 2,564 births.
DEATHS.
The total number of deaths registered during 1921 was 1,243,
of which 668 were males and 575 females. The crude Death Rate
for the Borough of 12.41 per 1,000 compares with 12.4, the Death
Rate for the County of London, and 12.3, the Death Rate for the
ninety.six large towns.
The Death Rate in the various Metropolitan Boroughs varied
from 11.2 in Hampstead, 11.5 in Hackney and Stoke Nwing ton,
11.7 in Woolwich, 11.8 in Fulham, up to 13 74 in Bermondsev.
13.8 in Kensington, 14.3 in Southwark, 14.4 in Shoreditch and 14.8
in Finsbury.
Locally the Death Rate varied from 14.28 in St. Nicholas,
12.53 in West Greenwich, 1217 in East Greenwich, 11.80 in
Charlton to 11.62 in Kidbrooke.
Of the total number of deaths, 24 were of illegitimate birth,
19 of whom were under one year of age.
