The Annual Report on the Canal Boats was
presented to the Vestry in January of this year.
There was nothing in it worthy of special note here.
Legal Proceedings.—The notices issued during
the year numbered 793, 267 fewer than in 1897, and
included 558 written intimations pursuant to Section 3
of the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, 81 notices
under the 4th and other Sections of that Act, and 154
notices of infringement of Bye-laws made under the
same Act. Ten summonses were issued under the
Act, that number, however, not representing the total
number of instances in which legal proceedings were
authorised. In all cases, other than the ten in
question, the works necessary were carried out without
the issue of a summons. The cases heard before the
Magistrate were:—
88, Walterton Road Order made £5 5s. costs.
277, Harrow Road do. £1 3s. costs*.
25, Clarendon Street do. 12s. 6d. costs.
39 and 45, „ Fined 20s. 12s. 6d. costs.
20, „ do. 12s. 6d. costs.
18, Warrington Crescent Dismissed No costs.
15, Kilburn Park Road Order consent do.
42a, Elgin Avenue Order made £2 2s costs*.
* These costs have not been recovered.
