South to 2.0 per cent. The mortality was 0.07 per
1,000 in the Northern Division, as compared with a
decennial average of 0.14, and 0.03 in the Southern,
the mean being 0.07. Of the 8 deaths, 6 took place
in hospital, equal to 2.5 per ceut. of cases removed,
and 2 at home, equal to 3.5 per cent, of cases not
removed.

The deaths from this disease during the year were
8 below the decennial average, 7 below that for the
quinquennium 1888-92, and two above that for the
quinquennium 1893-97. The mortality, 0.35 per
1,000, was 0.05 below the mean rate. In North
Paddington 41 deaths were attributed to this cause,
as compared with corrected averages of 53 and 40 for
the two five-year periods of 1888-92 and 1893-97,
and of 47 for the decennium. The mortality was 0.43
per 1,000, as compared with a mean rate of 0.49. In
South Paddington there were 4 deaths, as compared
with averages of 9 and 3 for the first and second of
the two quinquennia, and of 6 for the decennium.
The mortality in 1898 was 0.11 per 1,000 as compared
with 0.l7.
Nothing is known of the frequency with which a
fatal termination is observed in this disease. There
