IV.
During the year an inquiry as to the causes of the larger
number of deaths registered as due to "cancer," was commenced.
Certain more detailed, but provisional, statistics are included
under this head in this Report. The Reports of the Metropolitan
Asylums' Board and the Water Examiner have not yet been
published. I have therefore been unable to deal with the results
of isolation of infectious disease, or with the water supply of the
year. A special Report on Tuberculosis is in preparation, by
direction of the Sanitary Committee.
The office accommodation becomes more insufficient year by
year, and considerable inconvenience is experienced from the
want of a private room for the reception of callers desirous of
discussing medical or other confidential matters.
All the Members of the Permanent Staff of the Department,
which has remained unchanged during the year, have worked
well, and to my satisfaction.
I am pleased to be able to record that I have always secured
the co-operation of the Medical Profession practising in the
District. My thanks are due, and are heartily rendered, to the
Sanitary Committee for their cordial sympathy and support.
I have the honour to be,
Gentlemen,
Your most obedient servant,
m.a., m b, d.p.h.,
Mcdical Officer of Health,
Vestry Mall,
Harrow Road, W.
June, 1899.
