Venereal Disease.
Thirteen specimens of blood were sent to the Lister Institute in
1924 by the Medical Officer of the Ante-natal Clinic for the Wassermann
(Syphilis) reaction. All these specimens proved negative.
Thirteen specimens of vaginal discharge were examined for gonococci,
and all were negative. Eleven of these specimens were sent from
the Ante-natal Clinic, and two by medical practitioners.
Sale of Food and Drugs Act.
Four hundred samples were taken for analysis in 1924.
Milk.
One hundred and forty-five samples of milk were taken, and of this
number 141 were genuine and 4 adulterated. Three of these samples
were not sufficiently adulterated to warrant legal proceedings being
taken. The other sample was adulterated to the extent of 10.5 per cent.
of added water. Proceedings were instituted in this instance and the
summons dismissed on the defendants proving a warranty.
Drugs.
Four samples of drugs were submitted to the Analyst, and all four
were returned as genuine.
Other Foods.
The samples of other foods taken were all found to be genuine on
analysis, viz.: Butl er, 45; Coffee, 43; Cocoa, 52; Margarine, 16;
Sugar, 1; Cheese, 10; Baking Powder, 9; Pepper, 12; Vinegar, 10;
Ground Ginger, 2; Flour, 9; Mustard, 11; Chocolate, 2; Condensed
Milk, 11; Cream, 6; Tea, 9; Ground Almonds, 3.

Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1923.
During the year 27 licences under the above order were granted
to 10 Milk Retailers in the Borough, as follows :—
To sell Certified Milk 17
To sell Grade A. Milk -
To sell Grade A. Milk, Tuberculin tested 10
To sell Pasteurised Milk -
Housing of the Working Classes.
New Housing Scheme.
The 56 flats for the working classes in Hortensia-road are still in
the course of erection and will probably be completed and ready for
occupation in May of 1925.
