The Ministry of Health, on the 19th April, notified the Council
that various deductions would be made from the Council's estimates
of expenditure on their Maternity and Child Welfare Scheme for
the financial year 1927-28, including a reduction of £760 from the
amount provided for Milk and Milk Administration (£4,560).
The Ministry suggested the revision of the scale of income upon
which the payments to be made by the applicants for the supply
of milk at reduced rates or free are assessed, but the Council
decided to adhere to their existing scale. By the exercise of
rigid supervision the expenditure on milk, as will be seen from the
table, has been kept substantially within the reduced amount
allowed by the Ministry.
As stated in last year's report, in place of dried milk formerly
supplied under this service, Grade A (Tuberculin Tested) milk
only is now given, except in a few cases where, for medical reasons,
dried milk is ordered.
In addition to the above, dinners to the number of 693 were
supplied during 1927 to necessitous mothers and children at a
cost of £19 18s. 9d.
