Women and Children.
During 1926 the number of new cases of Tuberculosis notified
amongst women and children and not attending the Tuberculosis
Dispensary was 150. Of this number, after correction and adjustment
of the figures as to cases not traced, transferred to the Dispensary
and to other districts, and cases in regard to which no
information could be obtained, there were 142 cases investigatedwomen,
88 ; children, 54.
Of these 142 cases 19 were found to have died on the first visit,
and 9 cases died subsequently during the year.
The home conditions of these 142 patients were carefuly
investigated. In the majority of cases the sanitary state of the
home was found to be satisfactory, the average number of persons
per room being 1.4. In 18 cases, however, the patient's family
was found to be living in a single room, as compared with 19
families living under similar housing conditions in 1925.
During the year 59 cases were undergoing hospital, sanatorium
or other appropriate institutional treatment.
At the end of 1926 there were 464 women and children nondispensary
patients (a decrease of 30 as compared with 1925),
including new cases notified during the year, on the Tuberculosis
Register, and 1,022 visits were paid by the Woman Sanitary
Inspector to the homes of these patients.
Efforts were made in as many cases as possible to induce these
patients to attend the Tuberculosis Dispensary, and during the year
48 cases were transferred.
