The death-rate from tuberculosis in 1923 was the lowest previously
recorded in Battersea; the notifications received in that year
were also lower than during any year since compulsory notification
came into force. In 1924 there was however a slight increase in
the death-rate. On the other hand, the number of primary
notifications of tuberculosis received was again lower than in any
previous year.

The death-rates per 100,000 of the population from tuberculosis during the twenty years ended 1920, in quinquennial averages, and in 1921, 1922,1923 and 1924 are given in the following table :—
