of Health deemed advisable.
Diarrhoea and Enteritis.
Infantile Diarrhoea occurring in children of two years of age and
under is notifiable in this Borough by Order of the Council dated
27th July, 1920. During the year 1927, 54 such cases were notified,
and 1 of this number was admitted to hospital.
Diarrhcea and Enteritis caused 8 deaths during the year, all being
children under two years of age.
Epidemic Cerebrospinal Meningitis.
2 patients were notified as suffering from this disease during the
year: one patient was subsequently certified not to be suffering from
this disease, and the other was a nurse at the Soulh-Eastern Hospital.
There were no deaths ascribed to this cause.
Malaria.
6 cases of Malaria were notified in the persons of ex-service men
who had contracted the disease in the East.
Encephalitis Lethargica.
3 cases were notified during the year. There were two deaths
ascribed to this cause, and the remaining patient subsequently died
from other causes.
Apart from enquiries made on receipt of a notification, quarterly
visits are made with a view to ascertaining whether sequelae have
developed.
Acute Anterior Poliomyelitis and Polioencephalitis.
1 patient was notified as suffering from this disease, a girl of 5 years.
The disease was ushered in with abdominal pains, headache and
vomiting. Partial paralysis of right leg followed, but this improved
steadily.
Dysentery.
1 case (fatal) was notified in a female of 31. She developed
Dysentery whilst a patient in hospital.
