Readers who have not had a medical training cannot fully appraise
the meaning of this table in the measures of human suffering relieved.
Think, however, of the cases of heart disease, tuberculosis, venereal
disease and threatened convulsions detected and treated. Without
exaggeration, it is a scandal that women, mostly of the "better-off"
class, should face their confinements without ante-natal supervision.
