Town Hall,
Bethnal Green, E. 2.
May, 1926.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dr. G. E. Oates having ceased to function as Medical Officer
of Health for the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green on
October 1st, when he became Medical Officer of Health for the
Borough of Paddington, it becomes my duty, as your Acting
Medical Officer of Health, to present to you the Annual Report for
the year 1925.
The health of the Borough continued good, and in view of the
existing overcrowding and unemployment, the death rate of 12 0 per
thousand of the population is highly satisfactory.
I beg to express my thanks to the members of the Council, and
more particularly to members of the Public Health Committee, for
the support and consideration they have accorded myself and the
staff during the past year. I must also tender my thanks to the
officers and employees of the Public Health Department for the
support I have received from them, and to other officers of the
Council's staff for the help and courtesies received. Especially do I
desire to acknowledge with gratitude the very able assistance I have
received from the Chief Sanitary Inspector (Mr. Evan Richards) and
the Chief Clerk (Mr. J. H. Lloyd), two highly competent and
reliable officers.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
J. ASPINALL MARSDEN,
Acting Medical Officer of Health.
