Fifty mothers received 594 visits for nursing in
connection with conditions incidental to child-bearing
the cost being £24 15s. 0d.
Twenty-six adults and children over 5 received
215 visits for nursing at a cost of £8 19s. 2d.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
Two hundred and twelve deaths of Bethnal
Green infants under one year of age took place during
the year. This is equal to a rate of infantile mortality
of 80.6 per 1,000 births.
Comparison with previous years is as follows :—

So far as can be ascertained, 206 of the deaths
were those of legitimate infants and 6 those of illegitimate
infants. Accordingly, we have the following
figures for Infantile Mortality :—
Infantile Mortality (legitimate) 75.8
do. do. (illegitimate) 127.6
do. do. (all infants) 80.6
Of the 212 deaths, 30 were due to prematurity.
The deaths from diarrhœal diseases were 55 in
number, a considerable increase on last year's figure
of 29.
There were 46 deaths from bronchitis and pneumonia,
as compared with 57 last year.
