HOME WORKERS.
Of the 4,000 workmen and contractors whose
names appeared on the lists received, 2,755 resided
within the Borough. This figure, 2,755, is approximately
double the number of individual workers, as
in the majority of cases the same people are notified in
February and in August.
The number of visits paid to Home Workers'
dwellings was 1,813. The number of premises found
to be in an insanitary condition was 263, or 20 per
cent, of the 1,283 premises inspected. Notices were
served in 241 cases, the other 22 premises being
already under notice arising from other visits.
Difficulty is occasionally experienced in getting
employers promptly and accurately to send in copies
of their fist of outworkers, and it was found necessary
in the course of the year to prosecute two employers
on this account. In one case, being a second offence,
a fine of £2 with £2 2s. costs was imposed, while in
the other case the employer was fined 10s. The latter
employer was also fined 10s. for failing to keep a
proper list of outworkers at his premises.
