Town Hall,
Bethnal Green, E.2.
April, 1925.
To the Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors
of the Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present to you ray fifth Annual Report,
which deals with the health of the Borough of Bethnal Green
during the year 1924. The health of the Borough continued good
as judged by past standards, the death-rate being 12.4 per thousand
of population. The infantile mortality rate was 78.0 per thousand
births, this also being a striking improvement on the figures of
past years. A considerable portion of this report is taken up with
the subject of our Maternity and Child Welfare scheme, in view
of the progress being made in its development.
As in past reports. ] have to express my thanks to the
members of the Council, and more particularly to members of
the Public Health Committee, for the support and consideration
they- have accorded myself and my staff during the past year. 1
must also tender my thanks to the officers and employees of the
Public Health Department for the support I have received from
them, and to other officers of the Council's stall for the help and
Courtesies received.
I am, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
GEOFFREY EUGENE OATES,
Medical Officer of Health.
