MASSAGE.
During the year an arrangement was come to
with the Bethnal Green branch of the British Red
Cross Society for the services of trained masseuses at
the Centre. Commencing on 16th September, two
masseuses were in attendance on two or three afternoons
a week. The number of sessions held was 44,
the number of children who received massage was 82
and they made 463 attendances. The children were
referred to the massage room by the doctors attending
the consultations, and a record was kept of the condition
of each child at the beginning of the treatment
and during its course. The results obtained were
extremely encouraging, but in view of the fact that
only a few children had completed their course of
treatment at the end of the year, any comment must
be reserved for the next Annual Report.
Every endeavour was made to teach the mothers
to carry out simple massage at home in order to
supplement the attendance at the Centre, which had
to be perforce restricted to once or twice a week.
The conditions for which the children were referred
were : —
Rickets 24
Muscular Atony 42
Constipation 12
