The appointment of social workers in connection with
the control of infectious diseases and the welfare of
old people has proved of the utmost worth in making the
work of the Department more comprehensive. It was soon
found that the activities of these ladies was not
specifically confined to old people and infectious
diseases, but that there were many other fields in which
their co operation with other agencies would prove
fruitful.
