Compulsory Removal
It was fortunately only necessary to take action in
one case for the compulsory removal to hospital of an
aged person under the provisions of the National
Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1951. This was an elderly
woman in need of attention who refused to enter hospital
voluntarily. She was taken to St.Francis' Hospital on a
Court Order where she responded well to treatment and
was subsequently discharged. With the assistance of a
home help, the 'Meals-on-Wheels' and district nursing
services she is still being well cared for in her own
home.
