plants for sewage disposal and the control of milk and
milk products. Some difficulty was experienced in arranging
the training programme of a newly appointed student,
but thanks to the co-operation of colleagues in other
authorities (including the Armed Forces) it was possible
to draw up an adequate and comprehensive course which was
approved by the Board. These difficulties formed the subject

Joint Committee with a view of setting up a joint scheme

expressing to the members of the Council, the other Chief
Officers and their staffs my appreciation for their support
and co-operation throughout the year. The staff of the
Public Health Department - although below establishment -

loyalty and competent service at all times.
I am, Mr. Mayor, Aldermen and Councillors,
Your obedient Servant,
H. D. CHALKE,
Medical Officer of Health.
