7th to 14th October, 1961, (inclusive) and invited the
Council to take part. With the approval of the Public
Health Committee, four stands were taken for health education
purposes. Two of the stands were used entirely for the
display of propaganda for the prevention of accidents in
and around the home: the other two were devoted to food
hygiene and clean air respectively. Officers from the
Public Health Department were in attendance during the
whole of the time that the exhibition was open to give
advice and information to the public.
A National Fire Prevention Week was held from the
30th October to the 4th November, 1961, and the Public
Health Department co-operated by arranging for the display
of posters and the distribution of leaflets and other
literature on this subject in conjunction with publicity
material on home safety with which fire prevention is so
closely associated.
A number of health visitor students from the Battersea
College of Technology kindly volunteered to visit homes in
the Borough in connection with the campaign for the prevention
of home accidents. This proved to be a valuable addition
to the routine work carried out in this direction. These
ladies also helped in the completion of a questionnaire
aimed at assessing the results of health education
procedures.
