and research has been directed to the difficult problem of atmospheric
pollution. The Council actively contributed to this
campaign by purchasing and setting up within the Borough
instruments for measuring the extent of atmospheric pollution
and co-operating with the Department of Scientific and Industrial
Research and other bodies in their endeavours to find a
solution.
May I take this opportunity of expressing my thanks
and appreciation to the members of the Council for the consideration
and encouragement that have been shown to me at
all times. I am also grateful to the other Chief Officers and
their staffs for the co-operation and assistance which have
always been so willingly given.
In conclusion, I should like to pay tribute to the Staff
of the Public Health Department for the efficient manner
in which they have discharged their duties. I have been
fortunate in having a team of officers who have never spared
themselves in the interests of public health and I am deeply
indebted to them for their loyal service.
