VITAL STATISTICS.
Population.
The Registrar-General's estimated mid-year population of
Camberwell was 181,200, which shows an increase of 1,700 over
the estimate for mid-1951. The Census figure in April, 1951,
was 179,729.
Births.
The birth rate for the year 1952 was 16.1. This is three
points lower than that for the previous year, but is still very
much above the pre-war figure of 13.9 in 1938.

Deaths.
The number of deaths of Camberwell residents during 1952,
after adjustment for inward and outward transfers, was 2,212
or 12.2 per thousand of the population. This was 212 less than
in 1951 in spite of the number of deaths which resulted from the
dense fogs at the end of the year.
