A sharp fall in the still birth rate occurred in the year
1940 and the rate has remained at a much lower level since
that year. There is no doubt that the reduction was to some
extent due to the provision of more effective ante-natal care
and a more skilled obstetric service resulting in an improvement
in the health of the mother.
