NON-NOTIFIABLE DISEASES.
Diarrhœa and Enteritis.
During the year 35 deaths from diarrhœa and enteritis of
children under two years of age were reported. These deaths were
not, however, confined to the summer months.
Influenza.
Information relating to the incidence of this disease is not
available although to some extent the number of deaths registered
from influenza and its associated disease pneumonia serves as a
guide to the prevalence of this disease. During the year there were
14 deaths as compared with 72 in 1937, whilst the number of cases
of pneumonia notified remained about the same.
The practice of distributing leaflets on this disease was continued
as a routine propaganda activity.
Scabies and Body Vermin.
Any person suffering from these affections can be treated at the
Council's Cleansing Station at Peckham Park Road. The facilities
of this service are also placed at the disposal of the London County
Council for the treatment of school children similarly suffering.
Whilst treatment is proceeding the disinfestation of the patient's
clothes is carried out. The homes of sufferers are subsequently
visited and the infested bedding and other clothing are collected and
disinfected at the Council's Disinfecting Station.
