of these children was 2,057. At the end of the year the number of
persons on the register receiving children for reward was 176, and
the number of individual children in their care was 190, of whom
160 were under school age. Every endeavour is made to secure
the attendance of foster children under five years of age at Infant
Welfare Centres in the Borough in order that they may receive a
periodical medical overhaul.
During the year 4 foster children died, and in 1 case the death
was the subject of a Coroner's inquest. The foster mother in each
instance was deemed to be free from blame.

Toddlers' Clinics.
A report on these Clinics which was submitted to the Council
m the early part of the year appears at the end of this Report
(Appendix No. 2). This report reviewed the work carried out at
these Sessions from the date of the first session held on February 8th,
1937, to the end of that year.
