Infantile Mortality
The number of deaths of infants under one year of age was
188, three less than in 1935, representing an infant mortality rate
of 59 per 1,000 births.
The number of deaths of illegitimate infants was 18, furnishing
a death rate of 142 per 1,000 illegitimate births.
The chief causes of death in infants under one year were
prematurity 91 deaths, pneumonia 34 deaths, and diarrhoea and
enteritis 25 deaths.
Neo-Natal Deaths
The number of deaths registered of infants under one month
old was 81, representing a neo-natal death rate of 25.4 per 1,000 live
births as compared with 23.1 in 1935.
