Public Baths and Washhouses.
The three Municipal swimming baths situated at Church Street,
Camberwell, Goose Green, East Dulwich, and at Old Kent Road, are
fitted with a filtration and aeration plant and the water in the
swimming pools is chlorinated to ensure the provision of a satisfactory
water for the bathers. The bacteriological and chemical examinations
of samples of the water obtained from each bath periodically
during the year showed that the filtration plants were at all times
functioning efficiently. The number of bathers who used these baths
during 1934 is shown in the following table: —

Facilities for washing clothes are provided at Camberwell,
Old Kent Road, and Wells Street Baths. The number of users of
these facilities in 1934 was 57,172.
Public Mortuary.
An important improvement at the Public Mortuary resulted
from the remodelling of the existing rooms during the year to allow
for the inclusion of a preservation chamber.
This cooling plant which contains nine compartments enables
bodies received in varying stages of decomposition to be kept for an
indefinite period, without further physical changes taking place,
and is extremely valuable in affording facilities for the identification
of unknown bodies.
A monthly summary of the bodies received at the mortuary
during 1934 is appended:—
