Provision of Milk to Expectant and Nursing Mothers
and Children under 5 years of age.
During the year the Council had under review the Milk Distribution
Scheme which provided for the issue of cow's milk, and in
certain cases dried milk preparations, to nursing and expectant
mothers and children under 5 years of age in necessitous circumstances,
and as a result of their deliberations it was decided to
amend the scheme as follows:—
(a) That milk be supplied at less than cost price only on
medical grounds and upon the certificate of the Medical
Officer of Health or the Medical Officer in charge of an
Infant Welfare Centre.
(b) That no milk be supplied to persons in receipt of Poor
Law relief (which persons should be referred to the Public
Assistance Authority) or to hawkers.
