Ministry of Food forwards information to this Department of
all premises in respect of which catering licences are issued.
In cases where the premises have not previously been used as a
cafe or eating house, the sanitary inspector visits the property
and a report is forwarded to the Ministry as to its suitability
for the establishment of a business of this nature.
All restaurants and eating houses in the Borough are inspected
periodically by the district sanitary inspectors in order to
ensure that a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness is
maintained.
Street Traders.
Street trading licences were issued by the Council to 94
persons engaged in the sale of foodstuffs from barrows and
stalls in the streets and market places. These traders were
kept under constant supervision, and the premises used by
them for storage purposes were regularly inspected.
