Bakehouses Welfare Order, 1927.
Under this Order, which came into force on May Ist, suitable
washing facilities, cloakroom accommodation, a first-aid box and
drinking water have to be provided. The Order also requires a
cautionary notice, relating to the prevention and cure of dermatitis
among workmen handling flour and sugar, to be prominently
displayed in every bakehouse. The enforcement of the provisions
of this Order is in the hands of the Home Office. At the
end of the year there were 126 bakehouses in use in the Borough,
and of this number 43 are constructed below ground level.
During the year the Sanitary Inspectors made 361 inspections,
a`nd 39 notices were served for the cleansing of walls and
ceilings.
