The matter was reported to the Public Health Committee,
who ordered proceedings to be taken.
Owing to the defendant being deaf the summons was dismissed
on the ground that the Court was not satisfied that the
defendant realised at the time as to what was demanded.
Moisture in Butter. —14 samples of butter were analysed to
ascertain the amount of moisture, and only in one case did the
amount exceed the statutory limit of 16 per cent. (See table D.)
674 post cards were sent during the year to various tradesmen
intimating that the articles purchased from them complied with
the requirements.
Informal Sampling.
133 informal samples were submitted to the Public Analyst
(see table A), of which 12 were reported against, the percentage
of adulterated articles being 9.02. 60 other informal purchases
were also made of various articles of food as test samples only.
Included in this number were 19 creams, purchased to ascertain
whether the requirements as to labelling the receptacles, etc.,
were being carried out.
58 informal samples of margarine were obtained.
Of these two were sold in wrappers without the word
"Margarine" in half inch block letters appearing thereon, six
wrappers had only a part of the word, and in six other instances
the word was not distinctly legible as required by the Act.
Cautions were given to the vendors.
