V.—SANITARY
ADMINISTRATION
HOUSING.
During the year 1952, 6 clearance areas were represented and 4
were declared. Demolition Orders under Section 11 of the Housing
Act, 1936, have been made on 6 unfit houses, and Closing Orders
under Section 12 of the Housing Act, 1936, have been made on 7
parts of houses, involving altogether the displacement of 50 persons.
A total of 217 flats were completed at Neckinger Estate Extension,
Pynfolds, and Cathay House.
During the year it was decided to commence demolition of
temporary two-year hutments in the Borough, and 13 of these huts
were pulled down.
Accommodation for 233 families was provided during 1952 in
properties controlled by this Council, and 444 exchanges or transfers
were arranged, providing improved accommodation for 677 families.
A further 348 Bermondsey families were accommodated by the
London County Council during 1952, 74 of these having been specially
recommended by the Bermondsey Borough Council. Notification has
been received that 7 Bermondsey families have been accommodated in
new towns.
