The markets have run smoothly during the year ; income was
up by £273 17s. 6d. on 1950 ; there were no prosecutions against
licensed traders.
There were 387 successful prosecutions against unlicensed
traders, all "barrow boys" trading in the London Bridge area. Fines
totalling £705 9s. 6d. were imposed with costs amounting to £277 15s. 6d.
Thirteen further summonses were dealt with as follows: 3 were
adjourned sine die owing to the continued illness of police witnesses,
2 were adjourned sine die as the defendant had been called up for
military service, 4 were dismissed as the magistrate was not satisfied
that the evidence was conclusive, and 4 were marked "Not separately
dealt with", the defendants having been convicted and fined for
offences committed on the same day.
