IX.-SANITARY
ADMINISTRATION
HOUSING.
During the year 1945 no areas were represented or declared by
the Council. No permanent dwellings were erected, but during 1945
temporary accommodation in the form of 54 Uni-Seco Hutments
(2 year) have been completed and are occupied. The erection of
Emergency Factory-made Houses (10 year) is now proceeding and
it is intended to provide 243 of these which will be controlled by this
Council, and a further 94 to be under the supervision of the London
County Council in this Borough. Up to December 31st, 1945, 69
had been completed and taken over by this Council of which 60 were
in occupation on that date.
HOUSING ACT, 1936—OVERCROWDING.
No detailed survey has been made during the year with regard
to overcrowding, but the outstanding applications for accommodation
in the Borough numbered 3,404 and these were made up as follows: —
Homeless by enemy action 519 families.
No separate accommodation (chiefly young
married couples) 1,288 „
Overcrowded 144 „
Applications on Medical Grounds 49 „
