Report on the sanitary condition of the Borough of Bermondsey for the year 1940

DEATHS.
The total number of deaths belonging to the borough
registered during 1940 was 1,551, consisting of 795 males and
756 females. The number for 1939 was 1,010.
The death rate for 1940 was 21.7 per 1,000 persons living,
compared with 11.2 for 1939.
MARRIAGES.
The total number of marriages in the borough in 1940 was
1,186, being 72 below the number for 1939, and 156 above the
average for the last 10 years.
The figures have been supplied by the Superintendent
Registrar. This makes a marriage rate of 33.13 per 1,000 of the
population, compared with a marriage rate last year of 26.35.
