Report on the sanitary condition of the Borough of Bermondsey for the year 1938

The clearing of these areas will necessitate the demolition of
480 houses and the rehousing of 659 families, consisting of 2,390
persons.

The housing activities of the Council have been continued as in the past, and 555 flats and 6 shops were erected during 1938. Particulars of these are given hereunder:-

Private enterprise has been responsible for the erection of
12 flats. Altogether, therefore, 567 flats and 6 shops were erected
in Bermondsey during the year.
The houses demolished on insanitary areas number 541, and
14 houses have been demolished following the service of Demolition
Orders.
