MORTUARY.
During the year Mr. J. C. Stockwell, Mortuary Keeper, retired
on account of ill-health, and owing to the difficulties in obtaining
the services of a suitable temporary mortuary keeper, consideration
was given by the Committee to the fact that the number of
bodies received annually into the mortuary is so small as hardly
to justify the employment of a whole-time official. It was finally
decided that the London County Council should be approached
with a view to ascertaining whether they would be prepared to act
as agents for the Borough Council and receive into the newly
constructed mortuary at St. Olave's Hospital, those bodies for
which it is the duty of the Borough Council to provide accommodation
under the Public Health (London) Act, 1891. The London
County Council expressed willingness to assist in this matter, and
at the present moment an agreement for this purpose is in course
of preparation.

Particulars of bodies removed to the mortuary during the year are, as follows:—

Number of infectious bodies removed22
