Mr. Foot also draws attention to the present unsatisfactory arrangements
for the inspection of the markets in the parish, etc. With
the staff at his disposal these are the best he can make, and he
urges the appointment of a new officer whose duties should be
restricted to the supervision of markets and food supplies. This
recommendation I strongly endorse.
As this is the last annual report I shall make to the Vestry of
St. Matthew, Bethnal Green, permit me here to acknowledge with
gratitude the support and assistance I have invariably received both
from my colleagues and from the members of the Sanitary Committee,
not only during the past year, but also throughout the
whole of the period of 24 years during which I have been in the
service of the Vestry. In conclusion, I trust that I may be pardoned
if I express the earnest hope that the Public Health Committee of
the new Municipality will work as harmoniously with the officers of
my department as the Sanitary Committee of the Vestry has done
in the past. I know that my colleagues will continue to strive
with loyalty and devotion to place Bethnal Green in the forefront of
sanitary progress.
I have the honour to be, Gentlemen,
Your most obedient servant,
